How does SafePing work?
SafePing is simple: you set a daily check-in deadline, add an emergency contact, and tap once each day to check in. If you miss your check-in (plus any grace period you've set), SafePing sends an email to your emergency contact letting them know.
Is SafePing free?
Yes! SafePing is completely free to use. There are no ads, no in-app purchases, and no hidden fees. We believe safety tools should be accessible to everyone.
What happens if I miss a check-in?
If you don't check in before your deadline (plus your grace period), SafePing sends a notification email to your verified emergency contact. The email lets them know you've missed your check-in, but it's a gentle notification – not an emergency alert. It's up to them to decide how to follow up.
Does my emergency contact need to install the app?
No. Your emergency contact receives notifications via email only. They don't need to install anything – they just need a valid email address and to accept your invitation to be your safety contact.
What if I'm traveling or need to take a break?
You can pause alerts anytime from the Settings screen. Choose how long you want to pause (1 day, 1 week, etc.), and SafePing won't send any alerts during that time. When the pause ends, your regular check-in schedule resumes automatically.
What if I don't have internet when I need to check in?
SafePing works offline! If you check in without an internet connection, the app saves your check-in locally and syncs it automatically when you're back online. You'll see an "Offline Mode" indicator in the app when this happens.
Can I change my emergency contact?
Yes. Go to Settings in the app, and you can update your emergency contact information at any time. Your new contact will receive a verification email and need to accept before they become active.
What data does SafePing collect?
SafePing collects only what's necessary to function: your display name (optional), your emergency contact's name and email, a random device identifier, your check-in times, and your timezone/language preferences. We don't track your location, collect analytics, or show ads. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How do I delete my data?
You can delete all your data at any time from Settings > Delete All Data. This immediately removes your device registration, check-in history, and emergency contact from our servers. This action cannot be undone.
Is SafePing a medical device?
No. SafePing is not a medical device and does not contact emergency services. It's a personal check-in tool designed to notify a trusted contact if you miss your check-in. For medical emergencies, always call your local emergency services (911, 112, etc.).
Getting Started
Step 1: Set your deadline
When you first open SafePing, you'll choose your daily check-in deadline – the time by which you need to tap "Check in" each day. Pick a time that fits your routine. You can also set a grace period (extra time after the deadline before an alert is sent).
Step 2: Add an emergency contact
Enter the name and email of someone you trust. They'll receive an email asking them to accept being your safety contact. Once they accept, they're verified and will receive notifications if you miss a check-in.
Step 3: Check in daily
Each day, open the app and tap the big "Check in" button. That's it! You can check in anytime before your deadline. SafePing will send you a reminder notification before your deadline if you haven't checked in yet.
